Yes. You can trade index exposure around the clock on Liquid with index perpetual futures, which have no expiry and offer up to 50x on eligible index markets. They sit in the same non-custodial account as crypto, stock, commodity, and FX perps. Hours depend on the market and venue, so confirm the index perp is open before you trade a night or weekend move.

Dated index futures, such as CME's E-mini and Micro E-mini S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 contracts, trade nearly 24 hours a day, Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, with a daily maintenance break. They do not trade on Saturday.

Can I trade index futures around the clock?

Close to it, during the week. The CME Micro E-mini FAQ lists the current Globex schedule. That schedule covers most of each weekday night, but stops for a daily break, the weekend, and some holidays.

For access that does not depend on an exchange calendar, an index perpetual is the alternative. A Liquid index perp tracks an index reference and stays listed continuously. When the cash index and its futures are closed, the perp price reflects trader supply and demand rather than a live index print.

When the overnight price matters

Most index news lands outside New York trading hours: earnings after the close, Asian and European sessions, and weekend policy headlines. An index perp lets you act on that news when the market is open, but the price can move again at the cash open. Plan for a gap when you size a position, and set a stop-loss knowing it may fill past its trigger.

A worked example: index perp vs. Micro E-mini

Here is an illustrative comparison, not a quote. Suppose you want about $10,000 of S&P 500 exposure overnight.

  • Micro E-mini: each contract is a fixed multiple of the index, so one contract can be well above $10,000 of notional at current index levels. You can't buy a fraction, so your exposure jumps in contract-sized steps. Your broker sets the exchange margin per contract.
  • Index perp on Liquid: you enter $10,000 of notional directly. At 5x, that needs about $2,000 of margin. A 1% index move is roughly $100 of profit or loss either way, before fees and funding.

The perp lets you size exactly, but its funding can add up on a multi-week hold. The micro contract costs a few dollars per round trip, but it rolls quarterly and stops trading on weekends. Pick the one whose costs match how long you plan to hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I trade index futures around the clock?

Nearly, on weekdays. CME E-mini and Micro E-mini index futures trade nearly 24 hours from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, with a daily break. Liquid's index perpetuals have no expiry and offer up to 50x on eligible index markets, with hours that vary by market and venue.

Is an index perp the same as an E-mini future?

No. An E-mini is a CME-listed contract with a quarterly expiry and a fixed multiplier. An index perp has no expiry, is sized in dollars, and uses funding to track its reference.

Why does an index perp move when the stock market is closed?

Traders keep pricing in news while the cash index is closed. The perp reflects that demand, and it can reprice again when the underlying market opens.
