Frequently Asked Questions

Am I buying the actual stock, metal, or currency?

No. Liquid markets trade as perpetual contracts (“perps”) that track the price of the underlying asset, so you get directional exposure without taking ownership of the underlying share, metal, or coin.

How much leverage can I use?

The maximum multiplier varies by market and asset class. Crypto perpetuals support up to 40x, and forex and indices go up to 50x. Each market page shows the multipliers available for that specific asset.

What are pre-IPO markets like SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic?

They let you take a directional view on private companies before they trade publicly. You aren’t buying shares or any claim on the company’s equity — the market tracks a reference (oracle) price for the company rather than settling against a public stock. For SpaceX, that oracle is built from Nasdaq Private Market data, which tracks private secondary-market pricing and valuations. Liquid publishes the oracle, and traders buy and sell the perpetual around that level; if the traded price drifts too far from it, funding payments between longs and shorts pull it back toward the oracle. Because these are perpetual contracts, there’s no expiry or fixed settlement date, so you realize your profit or loss whenever you close the position, and the market can trade 24/7 even though the underlying private market isn’t continuously open.

Where do I see live prices and charts?

Every market has its own page with a live chart on app.liquid.trade. Open any market to get its full terminal: a candlestick chart with multiple timeframes, EMA overlays, and drawing tools; a live order book with bids, asks, and the current spread alongside a recent-trades feed; and a stats header showing the current price, 24-hour change, 24-hour volume, open interest, and the funding rate with its next countdown. You can place trades from the same screen.

What do funding rates, liquidation, and cross vs. isolated mean?

These are standard mechanics of leveraged trading. Funding rates are periodic payments between long and short traders that keep a perp’s price aligned with the underlying. Liquidation is when a losing position is automatically closed because its margin is used up. Cross vs. isolated describes whether a position draws on your whole account balance or only the margin assigned to it. Full explanations live on the Liquid Learn page.

Is leveraged trading risky?

Yes. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, and a position can be liquidated if the market moves against you. Tools like stop losses can help manage risk but don’t remove it. See the Learn topics on liquidation and stop loss before you size a trade.

How do I start trading?

Sign up at app.liquid.trade with your email, Google, or Apple account, then hit Deposit to fund it. You can send USDC or other tokens from major chains (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana, Base, and more), buy crypto with a debit or credit card, transfer via ACH, SEPA, or wire, or move funds in from apps like Coinbase and Cash App. After your first deposit you’ll enable trading, which sets up a secure session key (an Agent Wallet) so you can place orders in one click, and from there you can search any market and open a position with up to 50x leverage on perpetual contracts. If you’d rather trade conversationally, connect Liquid’s Co-Invest feature to Claude, ChatGPT, or iMessage to ask about markets and execute trades from the chat, each with a confirm step so you stay in control.
