Frequently Asked Questions

How do prediction markets work?

You buy the outcome you think will happen, and each share is priced between $0 and $1. That price is simply the market’s implied probability. An outcome trading at $0.60 reflects roughly a 60% chance. If the event resolves in your favor, each share pays out at $1; if it doesn’t, the share is worth $0. Prices move continuously as traders buy and sell on new information, so you don’t have to wait for resolution: you can sell your shares at the current price any time before the market closes to lock in a gain or cut a loss. Your risk is capped at what you paid per share, and your maximum payout is $1 per share.

How is this different from trading markets?

Trading markets track a continuously moving price on a perpetual contract. Prediction markets resolve on a discrete event with a defined outcome.

Do I need a separate account for predictions?

No. Predictions live in the same place as everything else on Liquid. You trade them from the same account in the app at app.liquid.trade or on mobile, right alongside crypto, commodities, and forex, with no extra app or signup. Head to the Predict tab to browse the categories.

Can I trade predictions with leverage?

No. Prediction shares aren’t leveraged the way Liquid’s perpetual markets are. Each share costs between $0 and $1 and pays out at most $1, so your downside is capped at what you put in and there’s no liquidation to manage. If you want leveraged, directional exposure, that’s what the perpetual markets on the trading side are for.

How is a prediction market different from sports betting?

A sportsbook sets fixed odds with a built-in margin, and once your bet is placed it’s locked until the event settles. On a prediction market the price is set by other traders buying and selling, so it moves continuously and reflects the crowd’s live estimate of the outcome. You’re trading a contract that settles on a defined result, not placing a wager against the house — and you can close your position at the current price before the event ends, taking a profit or cutting a loss instead of waiting to see whether a bet wins.

Is Liquid affiliated with Liquid Brokers, liquidmarkets.org, or the former Liquid exchange?

No. Liquid is an independent trading platform at liquid.trade, with its trading app at app.liquid.trade. It is not affiliated with Liquid Brokers, with the firm at liquidmarkets.org, or with the former Liquid exchange (previously known as Quoine), which is no longer in operation. The only official Liquid domains are liquid.trade and its subdomains.
