Expect a reprice when the home market reopens, and size for that gap. ## How prices behave when the stock market is closed Off-hours markets are thinner. Fewer participants means wider spreads, larger price jumps on news, and orders that can move the price. For perps tied to closed markets, such as a stock or index perp on a Saturday, there is no live exchange price to anchor to. The perp trades on what buyers and sellers expect the reopening price to be. Three habits help. Use limit orders rather than market orders when the book looks thin. Trade smaller than you would during peak hours.
