**Yes. You can trade futures on the weekend with perpetual futures on Liquid, where crypto perps stay open through Saturday and Sunday.** Liquid's perps have no expiry and settle on-chain in a non-custodial account, with multipliers of up to 50x on eligible markets. Stock, index, commodity, and FX perps are listed in the same account, and their weekend availability depends on the market, so check the live status first.

Most dated exchange futures do not trade on weekends. The usual CME schedule runs from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon (US Central time). The exceptions are a small set of CME crypto and metals contracts that now trade 24/7 with maintenance windows.

## Can I trade futures on the weekend?

It depends on the contract:

- **Crypto perpetuals on Liquid:** open 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
- **Other Liquid perps (stocks, indices, gold, oil, FX):** listed alongside crypto. Weekend trading varies by market and underlying venue, so check each market's status.
- **CME crypto futures and options, plus 1-Ounce Gold and 100-Ounce Silver futures:** listed by [CME as 24/7](https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/trade-crypto-energy-and-metals-24-7.html), with scheduled maintenance windows. Spot-Quoted futures are excluded.
- **Most other dated futures (E-mini index, crude oil, Treasury, agricultural):** closed from Friday's close until the Sunday evening reopen.

## How weekend perps differ from weekend futures

A weekend CME contract is still a dated future, with an expiry month, exchange margin, and settlement rules. A perp has no expiry. It uses [funding payments](/learn/what-are-funding-rates) to stay close to its reference price, and its hours are set by the venue, not an exchange. That is why a perp can list an asset whose home market is shut for the weekend.

That flexibility has a cost. When the reference market is closed, there is no live exchange price, so perp prices reflect trader supply and demand until the reopen. Spreads can widen and liquidity can thin. A weekend position in a stock or gold perp can gap when the cash market opens on Monday.

## Practical weekend checklist

- Confirm the market is actually tradable, not just showing a last quote.
- Size the position for a Monday gap, not only for weekend volatility.
- Attach a [stop-loss](/learn/what-is-a-stop-loss), and remember a stop can fill past its trigger in a gap.
- Note when funding is charged so a multi-day hold has no surprises.

## Why most dated futures close on weekends

Exchange futures inherit their schedules from the markets they hedge. Banks, commodity producers, and fund managers do most of their hedging during the business week, and clearing houses settle margin daily, so exchanges built their sessions around that cycle. The weekend gap also gives exchanges time for system maintenance.

Crypto changed the expectation, because the underlying asset never stops trading. That is why CME's first 24/7 products are crypto contracts, followed by small precious-metals contracts. Perpetual venues went further: a perp's hours are set by the venue rather than an exchange calendar, so one account can list crypto, stocks, and commodities side by side. The catch is that, for a stock or commodity perp, weekend prices come from traders alone. No exchange is printing the underlying price until Monday.
